Be a game changer

Ask Q wants to change the legal business. It is not the next law firm on the list but is the legal wing(wo)man that (international) companies have been looking for. Ask Q serves as an extension of several top companies' legal teams with a Legal counsel on-demand service and offers focused services in dedicated Expert Labs. We want to change the legal business, also for our employees: we offer complete transparency about financials, strategy and planning, we let our consultants take ownership over clients and projects and we understand the importance of a good balance between work and life. We are passionate about what we do, but we know there is more to life than work. 


Your role in a nutshell

As an HR Lead, you will become the first point of contact for everything within the broad HR domain.

Ask Q is growing aggressively. On average, at least one new consultant is hired every month. Generating inflow is the responsibility of our Marketing and Communication Leads and therefore falls outside of your responsibility. As HR Lead, you will be required to follow up on the administrative part of the inflow process (for example, diary management, planning interviews, etc.) for potential candidates who respond to our vacancies. You take part in the interviews together with one of the members of management as well as our very own ‘Talent Tigers’. 

We see professional onboarding as a crucial part of caring for our team. You will take the ultimate responsibility in this and make the new Ask Q consultant's first working days unforgettable. 

As HR Lead, you take a prominent role in the evaluation interviews and performance appraisals, in close cooperation with the management. Ask Q has a flat structure based on the principles of distributed ownership. This means that legal consultants can – on top of their high-level legal work – also take on an additional role in developing non-legal skills they are interested in. These roles are very varied: for example, we have Talent Tigers who help with recruiting, a Happiness Officer who organizes office events and a Knowledge Manager who is our curator on everything related to knowledge products. 

You follow up high level on the roles distributed among the team members and are the first point of contact in case people have any questions or concerns about their additional (non-legal) role. 

Ask Q is a game changer not only for its clients but also for its team. We constantly reinvent and redesign ourselves as an employer. You will have a crucial role in branding Ask Q as an employer. Also, designing an innovative career development plan (while respecting the flat team structure) will be on your plate.

As an HR Lead, you have the end responsibility for everything related to training and development. 

In close consultation with management, you take a leading role in compensation and benefits. You test the salary grid against the market and take the lead in outlining our future remuneration policy in which flexibility will be central. You follow up on social legislation and are the first point of contact for all legal and financial questions in the context of recruits.


Your profile

  • You feel eager to challenge the status quo as an HR professional in a fast-growing start-up:

  • a master’s degree in law is a nice to have, though not a must

  • you have 5 years or more of experience in HR, preferably in a legal or consultancy environment,

  • you are a strong communicator,

  • you are fluent in English. Fluency in Dutch and/or French are an asset,

  • you show a proactive approach and have a knack for problem-solving, and

  • you are a strong team player with the ability to work independently.
